Signs and Symptoms of Acid Wear
While your teeth may look healthy, a dental light may better reveal the effects of acid wear:

Acid wear can only be diagnosed by a dentist. At home, you can pay close attention to how your teeth look and feel. Some telltale signs dentists look for include:
| Translucency | Teeth may lose their brightness or appear translucent at the biting edges |
| Discolouration / yellowing | Pearly whites can begin to appear yellow as tooth enamel (white) wears away and the underlying dentin (yellow) shows through |
| Rounded Teeth | As acid wear progresses, teeth may look rounded or "sandblasted" around the surface and edges |
| Cracks or cupping | In later stages of acid wear, small cracks and roughness may develop at the edges of the teeth, or dents may appear on the chewing surfaces |
| Sensitivity | Your teeth may become sensitive to cold or hot foods, drinks or cold air |
